Furthermore, the front splitter and side winglets are removed, and the front wheel louvers are replaced with smoother ones. Every surface is analyzed and optimized for air to glide as effortless as possible over, under and through the body.

However, given the magnitude of the undertaking, the company wasn't ready to realize it - until 2020. This has meant that our technology (lightweight, compact and power-dense solutions you see and read about today) could evolve while its concept, details and design were maturing in that time. This has allowed the Gemera to be truly amazing and one-of-a-kind.

The Gemera appears purposeful and strong from the The Gemera appears purposeful and strong from the front, it has a confident character that suits its caliber. From the front to the side profiling of the car, you see solid lines that graduate into a strong shoulder-driven design. Its architecture boasts a robust and monolithic characteristic that takes inspiration from very early designs of the brand.

The Gemera takes this technology even further by combining it with the Koenigsegg Direct Drive transmission alongside the Tiny Friendly Giant engine (TFG) to enable all-wheel drive, all-wheel torque vectoring, and all-wheel steering.

A Friday Agera RS feature! The Agera RS is truly A Friday Agera RS feature!

The Agera RS is truly an outstanding beast and a bastion of ultimate performance – being the model that took the top speed record in a production car on a public road at 447.19 km/h in 2017.

Pictured is the first of just three Agera Final Edition cars – the “One of 1″. As a one-of-a-kind vehicle never to be duplicated, it features a top-mounted rear wing with a second blade, roof-mounted air intake, triple winglets on the front bumpers, 3D-printed titanium exhaust outlet, a unique front splitter, orange and clear carbon exterior finish, and aluminum interior switchgear, all unique to this car.

We go all the way back to the beginning in this in We go all the way back to the beginning in this installment of Tech Tuesday.

Homologation has always been a key focus for Koenigsegg right from the start. In the CC8S (our first production car), the engine was built in-house by Koenigsegg in Ängelholm, but based on a modular Ford V8 engine architecture.

But to reach 655 hp with full OBD compliance, meet emission regulations, have great reliability and drivability, Koenigsegg had to re-engineer the entire engine. It was fitted with dry-sump lubrication, forged piston and connecting rods, larger injectors, merged exhaust headers, ram air intake, centrifugal supercharger with a large intercooler, reworked cylinder heads fitted with new camshafts, valvetrain and injectors, head bolts had to be strengthened and the list goes on. While it was a lot of hard work, the car was recognized by the ‘Guinness World Record’ as the most powerful homologated production engine of its time. The successful CC8S engine program laid the foundation for the legendary fully inhouse developed Koenigsegg powertrains for the follow on models, but that is another story!

Fabulous Friday fun fact coming your way!   The R Fabulous Friday fun fact coming your way!

The Regera is technologically special. For one, it features a unique driveline (the patented Koenigsegg Direct Drive) that eliminates the conventional transmission in favor of a final drive unit.

Essentially, the car is in 7th gear at all times – great at cruising speeds but stressful on the driveline during take-off from standstill. The answer? The HydraCoup – basically a very advanced torque converter (and likely the strongest ever built) with lock-up functionality for smooth and progressive power transfer from the engine to the Regera’s single-speed driveline.

Taking off from standstill, primary torque applied to the rear wheels comes from the electric motors. This instant torque acts like lower gears of traditional transmissions, getting the car moving smoothly. The HydraCoup then gradually feeds power from the engine into the drivetrain until it locks up and the full power and torque of the ICE are applied.

The HydraCoup was developed in-house – a necessity as there weren’t other components in the world capable of doing so much at such a compact size. As is often the case at Koenigsegg, when a part is not available to do the exact job we require, we design and build the part ourselves.

Here’s a bit of (throwback) tech this Tuesday!

Koenigsegg’s consideration for the environment in the sphere of ultimate performance is well-known by now. This can be seen from the company’s flex-fuel solutions, the innovative use of electrification as part of our powertrains and most recently, our latest combustion engine (the TFG) that can run on Gen 2.0 biofuels. All these approaches are more sustainable and add to the extreme performance of our cars.

But did you know that all these started with the CCXR, the world’s first ‘green’ supercar that launched in 2007? It took Koenigsegg’s potent twin-supercharged V8 to a whole new level thanks to a flex-fuel sensor and hardware allowing the car to run on either regular gasoline, E85 (85% ethanol) or any mix in between. The higher octane rating of E85 bio fuel lifted the total output of the CCXR to 1,018hp – a record at the time! - Way ahead of time...
